Randy Just is the director of BKS Iyengar Yoga Studio of Dallas and is a Senior Intermediate I Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor. His study of yoga began in the 70’s and during the mid- 80’s he became a devoted student of B.K.S.  Iyengar. Randy has studied with the Iyengars in Pune, India as well as many senior Iyengar teachers globally and throughout the United States. Randy’s devotion to yoga and compassion for his students characterize a dynamic, precise teaching style. His innate sense of humor coupled with an insightful understanding of Iyengar yoga inspires and challenges his students thus enhancing the depth, clarity and focus of their practice. Randy is currently an assessor on the National Board for Iyengar Yoga Teacher Certification.

Becky Lloydowner and primary teacher at Aububon Yoga Studio, will meet with local participants throughout the year to review asanas and assignments and mentor some participants through the Introductory level of assessment. Becky is certified at the Junior Intermediate III level.

Requirements

•The program is open to those students who have a curiosity to deepen their study and practice of Iyengar yoga and as well as a willingness to share the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar with others.

•Participants should have a daily home practice that includes a regular study and practice of the asanas and pranayamas for their level of certification.

•Students should attend weekly classes with a certified Iyengar teacher if one resides in their community. Applicants should have at least 2 years of continuous study in the Iyengar method.

•Participants need to be members of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (IYNAUS) or one of the regional chapters such as the Iyengar Yoga Association of the Southeast (IYASE).

2017 Teacher Training in the Iyengar Tradition with Randy Just

This intensive course is suitable for serious students of Iyengar Yoga with who are interested in deepening their understanding of the practice and philosophy of yoga in their daily lives. The program imparts invaluable knowledge for those who are preparing for assessment as a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT) as well as for those pursuing certification through the  Junior Intermediate III level. 

This program is a 2-year IYNAUS-approved teacher training that consists of at least 60 hours of class time and personal study per year. It is not required to commit to the 2 years by registering for the program in 2017. However, applicants must be willing to make a commitment to a daily personal practice, time for study and fulfilling assignments and attending as much of the four weekends as possible in 2017.

Curriculum

ASANA & PRANAYAMA: Learn to teach the asanas and pranayamas as outlined in the syllabus for your level of Iyengar Certification.

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY: Study the basics of human structure and physiology as they relate to asana and pranayama.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY: Learn and practice essential techniques of teaching group classes such as sequencing, class setup, sense of direction, essential actions, salient points, linking within a pose and between poses, observation and correction.

PHILOSOPHY: The guiding principles of yoga philosophy are taught with an emphasis on how to apply these principles to your practice and teaching. 

ADDRESSING COMMON CLASSROOM ISSUES: Develop an understanding of how to work with students who have common physical problems in low back, neck, shoulders, knees, and wrists, and how to modify for high and low blood pressure, headaches, and menstruation.

Asana and Pranayama Classes: Randy will teach two 2-hour asana class to begin each weekend. In addition, Sunday mornings will begin with a one hour pranayama class. In this series of classes, Randy will guide students through the exploration of how asana and pranayama can lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves and the philosophy of yoga. These classes are open to the public but will be of particular benefit to those in the teacher training program as each class will link to the teachings within the teacher training sessions. 

Participants in the teacher training program may pre-register at a discounted rate for the asana and pranayama classes. 

Cost

Teacher Training Sessions: Four Saturday afternoons & Sunday teacher training sessions: 
Discount: $600 if received by January 6, 2017.

$700 due after January 6.  

Price for Friday evening & Saturday morning asana classes and Sunday morning  pranayama classes:
Discount for all asana and pranayama classes: $300 if received by January 6, 2017. ($30/asana class; $15/pranayama class) .

Or participants may pay for these classes the day of:
$40. for 2 hour asana classes
$20 for 1 hour pranayama classes

Students are encouraged to register for all four weekends. If you are unable to attend every weekend, students may attend individual weekends for $200. each and an additional $40. for each asana class and $20. for the pranayama class.
