Becky Lloyd is the director of the Audubon Yoga Studio and is an Intermediate Junior III certified Iyengar yoga instructor. She is also a Certified Yoga Therapist through IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists). She founded Audubon Yoga Studio in 2000.
Becky is a dedicated Iyengar yoga practitioner. For 25 years she has been deepening her yoga practice by studying with the Iyengar family at their Institute in Pune, India, as well with Senior Iyengar teachers Rebecca and Dean Lerner, Randy Just and Patricia Walden. Karin O'Bannon was her mentor for six years. Becky has mentored several students who have become certified Iyengar teachers.
Becky playfully balances the precise nature of Iyengar yoga with the wisdom offered in the yoga sutras. She received a BA in music and considers the sequencing of asanas for each class much like a composition in which the body and mind are taken through stages of movement and stability with the goal of connecting with our Divine nature. She calls this approach ‘Divine Play’. She is passionate about providing a safe and accessible space for everyone at any stage in their life, regardless of ability or previous experience.
Becky finds joy and inspiration in nature while traveling, camping, and bird watching. She has been an active volunteer with Audubon Louisiana working with shorebird surveys and the Prothonotary Warbler Nest Box Projects in Jean Lafitte. New Orleans has been her home since 1987. She lives with her fiancé, her Catahoula and two cats.
Solange da Silva Gonske began her study of Iyengar Yoga after Hurricane Katrina, in 2005. This new practice helped her cope with many changes in her life and in the city of New Orleans. As she became a more dedicated practitioner she started to study with various Senior Iyengar teachers throughout the United States. Solange has participated in teacher trainings with Lois Steinberg, Chris Saudek, Mary Obendorfer, Eddy Marks and Randy Just. She has a bachelor's degree in Health Promotion and Physical Education, adores teaching elementary students and loves practicing yoga with her son and husband. Solange is a Certified Iyengar yoga teacher.
Kathy O’Shaughnessy has been practicing Iyengar yoga since 2002. As a young adult, Kathy came to New Orleans from St. Louis, Missouri, in the mid 1960s. For over 30 years, she has been the administrator at a French Quarter art gallery. Before that she had an odd assortment of professions, including Catholic Sister, auto mechanic, school bus driver and house painter. She has five beautiful grandsons, a dynamic daughter and a loving son, all of whom give her great happiness. It is they, as well as yoga, she says, that give her life meaning and purpose. Kathy received her Introductory Iyengar yoga teacher certification in 2013. She is also a Certified Yoga Therapist through IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists).
